JVO and Lannie Counts Bring The House Down At Notoriety

Wednesday night on Fremont Street was exactly what it was supposed to be.
A great room. A world-class band. A vocalist who made every song feel like it was written just for that moment. And an audience that showed up in a big way for live jazz and for the mission behind it.
The Jazz Vegas Orchestra's monthly residency at Notoriety keeps growing and August 5th was another reminder of why this room has become one of the most exciting live music experiences in Las Vegas.
Lannie Counts Delivers
Dubbed the "Heart of Soul" by Chic Compass Magazine, Lannie Counts lived up to every bit of that reputation on Wednesday night. Moving effortlessly through jazz standards and audience favorites, from the timeless elegance of Frank Sinatra to the soulful warmth of Van Morrison, Lannie brought something to the Notoriety stage that is increasingly rare in this city: a singer who is fully present in every note, every phrase, and every moment of a song.
The chemistry between Lannie and the Jazz Vegas Orchestra was immediate and natural. By the second number the room was locked in and it stayed that way all night.
Former JOI Students Were In The Pocket
One of the most exciting moments of the evening had nothing to do with the set list.
Several substitute musicians joined the Jazz Vegas Orchestra that night, including former JOI students stepping into the ensemble for the first time in this setting. They were, as anyone in that room would tell you, completely in the pocket.
No hesitation. No adjustment period. Just musicians who came up through JOI programs sliding into a professional big band and delivering. It was another live demonstration of what this organization builds in young people and what happens when that foundation is strong enough to hold up under any circumstance.
This is the JOI mission in real time. Former students, now professionals, performing on the same stage where their mentors play. The circle keeps closing.
A Full Room Means More Kids in the Classroom
Every ticket sold at Notoriety goes directly toward JOI's education and outreach programs across Southern Nevada. Wednesday's strong attendance was not just a great night for jazz. It was a great night for the thousands of students JOI serves each year through free lessons, donated instruments, school programs, and summer camps.
When you show up for a JVO show, you show up for the kids. Thank you to everyone who was in that room Wednesday night.
