BUZZIN' IN BRASS RETURNS TO SCHOOLS!

Jazz Outreach Initiative's highly acclaimed program, "Buzzin' In Brass," returns this month after a two year haitus! In March 2020 when Covid shut down our schools, Jazz Outreach Initiative had to cancel all of its in-person programming, including "Buzzin' In Brass."

"Buzzin' In Brass" is co-funded by The Smith Center for the Performing Arts and provides local Title 1 elementary schools with 100% FREE enhanced music education experiences to supplement the great work by their school's Music Specialist.

Jazz Outreach Initiative created this program a few years ago to rave reviews from faculty, administrators, and students alike. Students learn about brass instruments, their history, how they're made, how they sound, and then listen to age-appropriate recognizeable tunes performed by the JOI Brass Quintet. Watching the youth who may otherwise never see or hear instruments like these up close spontaneously clap to the beat, sing along with the songs, ask thoughful questions, and cheer when they hear a favorite song brings "JOI" to the entire school!

Led by JOI Co-Founder and V.P. of Education and Programming Gary Cordell, our first "Buzzin' In Brass" is scheduled March 21 at Ruthe Deskin Elementary School. Title 1 elementary schools are encouraged to check the CCSD programs listing or contact Gary Cordell directly to schedule your "Buzzin' In Brass" at GaryC@joi-lv.org.

JOI's portion of the "Buzzin' In Brass" cost is $150. Members of the community are encouraged to support "Buzzin' In Brass" and other outstanding youth-centered programs by visiting www.joi-lv.org/donate and registering for a small monthly gift. Businesses can also become Corporate Sponsors through the same donation page or by reaching out directly to Executive Director, Donny Thompson at 702-812-2133 or DonnyT@joi-lv.org.
