
Jazz Outreach Initiative is excited to announce the official rebranding of our outstanding "JOI Jazz Orchestra" to the new "Jazz Vegas Orchestra!" Years of thought leadership went into this important decision down to the smallest detail and consideration. Respected members of the music, marketing, and philanthropic communities were consulted along with the final approval by a unanimous vote of our Board of Directors.
The name, "Jazz Vegas Orchestra" even in that order has significance. JOI is first and foremost a jazz organization and similar to others in our peer group (Jazz Houston, JazzArts Charlotte, Jazz St. Louis, Jazz at Lincoln Center, etc.), we felt strongly "Jazz" should be front and center. The design of the word, "Jazz" (suggested by brand marketing expert Tom Michel (Arizona Opera, Nevada Ballet, Film at Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Opera, MTV, Metropolis Theatricals Las Vegas) promotes Jazz as a modern and cool art form. The word, "Vegas" in script blended into "Jazz" suggests an inspiration of classiness and nostalgia. And in a nod to our Jazz Outreach Initiative roots, you'll always see our trademark "Beams of Enlightenment" as we like to call them and any time you see those in any of our education, outreach, or performance programs, you'll know to expect the very best. Jazz and Vegas combined and in our new web URL (www.jazzvegas.org), "Jazz Vegas" celebrates an artform far from needing to be saved, but one which is celebrated for what it is... thriving, new, and exciting. And you already know Jazz Vegas Orchestra fits that definition entirely.
Much discussion also centered around the use of "Vegas" since some people outside of our area still see the city as uncouth and campy, not understanding the rich culture the city has developed over the past 20+ years with a great "Las Vegas" Philharmonic, Broadway shows, The Smith Center, and dozens of exceptional cultural and artistic programs making our city a vibrant community. It wasn't lost on us either that "Las Vegas" itself is a tremendously powerful global brand we're lucky enough to enjoy as embraced by sports teams, "Las Vegas Raiders", "Las Vegas Golden Knights", "Las Vegas Aces", and soon-to-be "Las Vegas A's." But uniquely in the name "Las Vegas," is the word, "Vegas." And where Las Vegas was built by gaming, "Vegas" as an experience was built by jazz in the showrooms on the backs of local musicians performing for legendary headliners. People come to Las Vegas (one of nearly six dozen "Las Vegas" cities around the world), but they come and DO "Vegas," of which there is only one! Not only are we wholly embracing "Vegas," we're going to lean in fully, defining the brand as one of the world's great centers for jazz! And we're well on our way as Jazz Outreach Initiative has already achieved national recognition among our peers for our outstanding team and its exceptional programs.

These include our monthly "Jazz Vegas Orchestra Live" performances at Notoriety, a very exciting concert on October 9th at Myron's at The Smith Center, our annual "JOI to the World" Christmas concert at Starbright Theater in Summerlin on 11/26 (tickets available soon), performances by our Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra and combos, and much more to be announced soon!
