Jazz Outreach Initiative's Jazz Vegas Orchestra Sensory-Inclusive Family Concert at Reynolds Hall - The Smith Center - Nov. 12!

A "JAZZ FOR YOUNG PEOPLE CONCERT" LICENSED TO JAZZ OUTREACH INITIATIVE BY JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER - PRESENTED BY THE SMITH CENTER

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts Education Department is thrilled to present Jazz Outreach Initiative's Jazz Vegas Orchestra (formerly JOI Jazz Orchestra) in "What is Jazz?", a performance priced for families and specifically designed as a sensory-inclusive experience (see below explanation).

For years, through our affiliation with Jazz at Lincoln Center, "JOI" has licensed "Jazz for Young People" from the world-renowned jazz institution in local middle schools and high schools utilizing its JOI Jazz Sextet.

Through the outstanding leadership and cooperation with our friends at The Smith Center, we'll be hosting three performances over two days in the magnificent Reynolds Hall with the entire big band, the Jazz Vegas Orchestra! Thousands of students during the days will be bussed in at no cost to CCSD schools to experience and learn about jazz and its history as an authentically American art form!

On Tuesday evening at 6:30pm, the general public (and specifically families) are welcome to attend this specially priced performance!

Sensory inclusive performances are designed to serve any person with a physical, emotional, intellectual, or developmental disability as well as those without disabilities. This performance will be modified to address the sensory sensitivities that are often found in children, adolescents, and adults who have a variety of diagnoses including but not limited to: Autism spectrum disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, ADD/ADHD, intellectual and developmental disabilities, post-traumatic stress disorder, dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. Families are encouraged to attend together for an enjoyable visit to the theater. In other words, everyone is welcome!

Jazz Outreach Initiative would like to thank JOI Co-founders Kenny Rampton (Artistic Director) and Gary Cordell (Vice Pres., Education & Programming) along with our friends at Jazz at Lincoln Center and The Smith Center for working together to bring our community this exceptional educational and cultural experience!
