Jazz Outreach Initiative is JOIful to announce the unanimous approval of its Board of Directors and welcomes influential business leader, philanthropist, and seasoned nonprofit leadership expert, Linda Marvin to its family!
Ms. Marvin has been a very active and passionate supporter, advocate, and volunteer for years with JOI and as the executive leadership team continues its emphasis on board development, we couldn't think of a better fit for this growing team!
Many of Linda Marvin’s fondest memories of growing up in Southern California center around her time playing flute & oboe in her school’s orchestra & marching band programs.
In college, her focus shifted to business, earning a degree in Accounting from Calif. State Univ., Fresno and becoming a Certified Public Accountant. After an early career with KPMG Peat Marwick as an audit manager, she transitioned into private industry focusing on telecom and her passion, commercial aviation.
In the telecom sector, Linda was the chief financial officer and senior vice president of finance for Mpower Communications. In commercial aviation, she’s held leadership roles with several air carriers including WestAir Commuter Airlines, Mesa Air Group, Business Express/Delta Connection, and Allegiant Travel Company where she served as chief financial officer through the company’s reorganization and subsequent successful initial public offering.
In 2008, Linda left Allegiant’s management team to dedicate time to private investments and philanthropic activities, fulfilling a desire to give back to her local community. She served on the board of The Animal Foundation from 2010 through 2013, and as its Board Chair from 2013 through 2016. Linda is a member of United Way’s Women’s Leadership Council and a graduate of the Las Vegas Chamber’s Leadership Las Vegas program.
Linda rejoined Allegiant Travel Company in 2013 as a member of its Board of Directors. She is also on the Board of Advisory Directors of U.S. Bank National Association.
“Given my personal experience with music education, I’m thrilled to have this opportunity to be of service to our youth as a member of the Jazz Outreach Initiative’s Board” Linda says. “I share JOI’s passion and dedication for mentoring and educating youth, connecting music and life skills through the great American art form, jazz."
JOI Executive Director, Donny Thompson, said during her nomination process, "Linda agrees that a world-class jazz culture in Southern Nevada ensures its future through investments in outreach and education for all ages and demographics today, and pays dividends through high quality performances by student ensembles such as the Las Vegas Youth Jazz Orchestra, and professional big bands like the JOI Jazz Orchestra now and for generations to come. Linda's talent and passion will help continue JOI's meteoric growth and ensures our community will enjoy the fruits of our Mission at the highest level."
