Robert & Shirley Kramer Continue Their Long Tradition of

Supporting Top Arts Organizations Across the West

Jazz Outreach Initiative is pleased to announce that Friends of UNLV Jazz has renewed their Gold level corporate sponsorship. Directors Robert and Shirley Kramer have been supporters of "JOI" since its first introductory Soiree Event in 2018. Friends of UNLV Jazz was created by the Kramers to support UNLV's Division of Jazz and Commercial Music and is managed by them within the UNLV School of Fine Arts with Dean Nancy Uscher.

This sponsorship will co-host with JOI, the "Director's Dinner" at the 4th Annual Las Vegas Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival being held on the campus of UNLV in the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall, February 17th and 18th, 2023. Tickets for the festival will be announced shortly.


The Las Vegas Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Festival brings together 18 high school jazz big bands from across CCSD and the west, including the Orange County School of the Arts which took third place at the 2022 National Essentially Ellington Festival held at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. The "Director's Dinner" is a premier private event within the public festival for band directors and keynote speakers to meet, dine, and learn from each other as student participate in a multi-school jam session and dinner. The Las Vegas festival is noncompetitive, education focused, and is the largest and most prestigious of the dozen regionals.


Essentially Ellington is licensed to JOI by Jazz at Lincoln Center as their affiliate and is co-hosted annually by the UNLV School of Music, Division of Jazz and Commercial Music.
