RAVE REVIEWS FOR THE CHARLEY DAVIS TRUMPET CLINIC

Saturday, August 24, 2019, JOI sponsored and hosted legendary trumpeter, Charley Davis in Doc Rando Recital Hall on the campus of UNLV School of Music. The Charley Davis Trumpet Clinic had more than 80 registered attendees representing all age groups and was presented free of charge.

Students enjoyed a highly interactive and engaging experience with Charley bringing kids up to focus on individual technical improvements relevant to the whole audience. There were so many questions and discussions, the 90 minute scheduled class went another 45 minutes before the audience members were invited to take photos, gather free autographed posters, and play test some of Charley’s trumpets and mutes on display. Measuring success of the day, Executive Director Donny Thompson queried the audience about how their experience with Charley might impact their approach to trumpet playing going forward and there was excellent feedback students and professionals alike noted would be immediately implemented.

In addition to performing and recording, Charley Davis is highly sought after as a teacher, clinician, and diagnostic problem solver. He has served on the faculties of California State University – Long Beach, Citrus College, and the Henry Mancini Institute. Charley’s interest in advancing and improving the design of the trumpet has resulted in the development of his own line of trumpets as well as a line of mutes and accessories under the name “Charles Davis Music Products, Inc.”

An active musician for more than 45 years, Charley Davis has played with Woody Herman, Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Michael Buble’, Ray Charles, Natalie Cole, Placido Domingo, and many others, along with hundreds of film and television credits, big bands, and showrooms across the globe from Broadway to Vegas and beyond.
