Jazz Outreach Initiative and Nevada School of the Arts Announce New Collaborative Relationship

This week at Nevada School of the Arts, Jazz Outreach Initiative announced a collaborative agreement to host a portion of Jazz Outreach Initiative’s programs on the campus of Nevada School of the Arts.

“As an affiliate of Jazz at Lincoln Center, JOI understands the importance of working with fellow nonprofits,” said Donny Thompson, Executive Director at Jazz Outreach Initiative. “Both Kenny Rampton (JOI Founder and member of Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis) and I spent our youth in NSA’s various programs and for decades, have directly witnessed the benefits NSA has on student musicians. Jazz Outreach Initiative shares a common vision with Nevada School of the Arts to create a world-class music education community where collaboration eclipses competition, community supersedes individualism, and students learn collegiality from their teachers and mentors who model it.”

Nevada School of the Arts added, “Nevada School of the Arts, under the new leadership of concert pianist and Juilliard graduate, Raja Rahman, has been rapidly expanding its instrumental, chamber, jazz, and orchestral programs while continuing its tradition of being our community's premiere performing arts school. NSA is honored to welcome Jazz Outreach Initiative (JOI) as we join forces to provide our collective students with world-class educational opportunities right here at home. Our shared visions align in not only creating great performing artists, but responsible and enlightened world citizens.”

Thompson and Rahman added, “Students across Southern Nevada will be more well-rounded musicians and better citizens if they are encouraged to learn and engage in as many diverse performance and educational environments as possible. This fruitful relationship between JOI and NSA is a very big first step towards ensuring our young people have every opportunity to enhance their love of music, grow friendships with peers from other schools, and take those experiences and musical growth back to their school band rooms.” Both organizations will continue seeking ways to work closely together with other programs and joint offerings.
