EDWARD JACKSON served as the Director of Bands at K.O. Knudson Middle School from 2005-2017. His responsibilities included teaching the Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Rock Band, Percussion Class/Drumline, and two Cadet Bands.
Prior to his teaching assignment at K.O. Knudson Middle School, Mr. Jackson served as the Director of Bands at the Las Vegas Academy, Walter Johnson Middle School, and Helen C. Cannon Middle School. Preceding his assignments with the Clark County School District, Mr. Jackson directed concert bands, marching bands, jazz bands, and orchestras at David Starr Jordan High School and Charles Lindbergh Junior High School in the Long Beach Unified School District and at Auburndale Junior High School in the Corona-Norco School District. He has taught band and orchestra at the elementary, junior high, and high school levels and his bands have received consistent Superior ratings at local and regional festivals throughout his career as a public school teacher.
Mr. Jackson began his musical training in the Morongo Unified School District in Twentynine Palms, California. His band director during elementary, junior high, and high school was Darrell Sausser, who was responsible for Mr. Jackson’s early instruction on euphonium, alto horn, and French horn.
Mr. Jackson received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music from California State University - Long Beach under the guidance of H. Robert Reynolds, Don Wilcox, and Larry Curtis. He earned a Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeastern University. His memberships in professional music organizations have included the Texas Bandmasters Association, National Association for Music Educators, College Band Directors National Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Southern Nevada Band Association, National Band Association, Southern California Schools Band & Orchestra Association, International Association for Jazz Educators – formerly NAJE, and the International Horn Society.
Mr. Jackson’s professional career playing the French Horn has included assignments with the Long Beach Symphony, the Nevada Symphony Orchestra (currently the Las Vegas Philharmonic), the Nevada Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Hallelujah Hollywood, Jubilee, and as free-lance musician in many of the hotels and showrooms on the Las Vegas Strip. His two children, Lauren and Scott, both play the violin. Lauren maintains a large violin studio, performs with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, free-lances on the Vegas Strip, and in October, completed the 2018 season at the Tuacahn Center for the Arts in St George, Utah. Lauren is married to Gary Cordell, who is an arranger, copyist, teacher, and established trumpeter on the Las Vegas Strip. Gary recently concluded a year-long tour throughout the United States with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest creation, Love Never Dies. Scott received his Doctor of Musical Arts in violin performance at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and currently performs with the New World Symphony – Michael Tilson Thomas, Director, in Miami Beach, Florida.
