Let's Make a Difference
JOI was founded to fill a need in the community for greater exposure to jazz studies and awareness, primarily focused on students – grades K-12 as well as college. Through festivals, clinics, “Band Directors Academy,” Jazz for Young People Concerts, and more, JOI celebrates the great American art form by promoting it through the next generation of performers, audiences, and consumers.
JOI hosts the Las Vegas area regional Essentially Ellington High School Band Festival. Essentially Ellington is the capstone to all of JOI's work, encompassing Eduction, Performance, and Community Outreach. The program features arrangements and artists from Jazz at Lincoln Center along with support of the UNLV Jazz program.
JOI strives to enrich the Las Vegas community by sharing music at local venues, festivals, and public spaces. Past events include the "Music is Love" series at Opportunity Village and Jazz for Young People at area High Schools.
JOI builds programming to increase opportunities for kids to play in public. While education is foundational to building musical talent, performances build confidence, depth, and strength for young musicians.
